The 2nd Spivak-Gilon 2007 Tennis Tournament . and the winner is - AWARENESS

July 9, 2007 – Gilon Business Insight – Israel – The Tennis top team of the Spivak handicapped club played against Gilon BI team, during the Spivak-Gilon Tennis tournament, conducted for the consecutive second year. The success of the previous tournament was evidence through the large number of participants showing for the matches this year – 30 players. The tournament included several matches, ending with the Spivak team on the lead. The Gilon's team will have to continue practice on its back-hand until the next tournament.

Thoug the cap was given to the Spivak team, the real victory lays in the increasing awareness to the handicapped, as was said by the tournament initiator, Nadav Levi, a Gilon employee and member at the Spivak club: "While groping around, I sensed some feelings of empathy with a few 'Gilonners'. Do they think I cannot compete as an equal?... a little more spiking and we'll see who's the real handicapped around here… Pretty fast the picture changed and the 'Gilonners' decided to fight back…some impressive matches took place, players and balls flew around. The score was not important anymore – the experience was the main thing. Some experiences require true involvement to understand – this was one of them."

"Well, the evening is over, the 'Gilonners' are once again defeated. We need to get people into a strict training regiment if we want to win next year. But the truth is, this is not the real goal. The goal in a tournament like that is to teach, to know, to see, to expose and increase awareness to a whole world of handicapped people who rarely receive appreciation both from society and from government. A group of people who need to worry not only about where the next meeting will take place, but also whether they could access it at all."
