Gilon completed a project of OLAP application conversion to SQL2005 environment, at Cellcom

The transition to SQL2005 environment enables Cellcom to achieve parallel processing capabilities, advanced extraction and investigation capabilities and quicker response time

May 31, 2007 – Gilon Business Insight – Israel – Gilon BI has completed a project of converting Cellcom's OLAP cubes setup into SQL2005 environment. OLAP cubes setup, based on Panorama tools, is the basis of performing data investigation by hundreds of users at Cellcom. The conversion was done on a setup of tens of cubes with the objective of improving technological capabilities, and allowing the organization to use the SQL2005 advanced capabilities, among which are parallel processing, advanced extraction and investigation and quicker response time. As a result the users will have a more complete and efficient data investigation experience.

This project is the first stage of a wider project, in which the existing cubes' setup will be converted to allow direct work over the active Enterprise DWH, which was also developed by Gilon. The goal of the project is to give users a continuous investigating capability between the existing relational information in the DWH and the summarized information above it.

Yossi Shoham, Head of Cellcom's BI says: "we find a great business value in shortening the time of performance data presented to the company's management. The move towards this innovative technology enables loading and processing capabilities of extremely large quantities of information in a short time. Processes which used to take a few days are completed now within hours. By presenting information to management quicker and analyzing it rapidly, the organization is able to significantly reduce response time thus improving its business performance.
In addition, following this upgrade we can finally consolidate the data in the central DWH with the information presented in OLAP."

Meir Ben Nissin, Gilon's project manager at Cellcom said: "The cubes conversion will be executed by using a proven conversion methodology, developed by Gilon in view of our vast experience with SQL2005 development tools and performance capabilities of conversion projects in a large number of customers. In addition, the end users will enjoy the wonderful capabilities of SQL2005 among which are advanced analysis and quicker extraction time."
